Drumming Forward Program @ Juvenile Treatment Center, South Lake Tahoe, 4th Session, Feb. 2017

Saturday, Feb. 11th, 2017. The theme this week was, “Harmony & Relationships”.

I see harmony represented in 3 areas – musical, within community and within one’s self. Within music, harmony represents notes played together that sound good. Within community and society, it represents the ability to get along, appreciate one another and work together, and harmony within us is when our behavior and thoughts match who we think we are and how we act towards others.

Today we talked about these concepts and played together with them in mind. It was a great session. Some of the youth are really coming out of their shells musically and verbally. Lots of great soloing today around the circle. Lots of smiles and fun, and lots of questions about our performance coming up.

All of the shares about the journal assignment regarding relationships where heart felt and thoughtful. Everyone shared – that was awesome.

Our mindfulness practice today was on drumming and being in the present moment with an intention set beforehand. I felt it went well – different for them, but went well.

Proud of these youth – they are trying and they are sweet, appreciative and respectful.

Till next time,

Drumchik!
