20 Feb Drumming Forward Program @ Juvenile Treatment Center, South Lake Tahoe, 5th Session, Feb. 2017
Drumming Forward – One Beat at a Time, is a youth empowerment drumming program I created for the youth at the Juvenile Treatment Center in South Lake Tahoe.
Saturday, Feb. 18th, 2017. The theme this week was, “Forgiveness & Responsibility”.
When we forgive ourselves and others, we get a “Do Over” or a 2nd chance. Forgiveness can free us from negative emotions such as anger, hurt, resentment, guilt and depression. It gives us the power to make a new start with ourselves and other people.
Making mistakes are a part of the human condition. We all make them, but having the ability to forgive can change the outcome of so many experiences in our lives. And just because we make mistakes, doesn’t mean we are not a valuable person. All that matters are that we learn from our mistakes, accept responsibility for them and move forward.
Sometimes our mistakes bring about adverse situations, but ultimately, they can also bring about the most significant positive changes in our lives. It is all in how we perceive our challenges and how much responsibility we accept regarding them.
We have control of three things in our lives – our thoughts, what we dream about and our actions. When we understand that by taking control of these three things, our experiences will reflect more of what we want in our lives. With that in mind, we can also understand that it is now our responsibility to pay attention to the things we do have control over and accept responsibility for what happens in our lives.
It is always my hope, and the staff and the volunteers I work with, that these youth are able to use their time in the Juvenile Center to improve themselves, gain more self-awareness and become happier while learning how to Drum!
Till next time,
Drum On!
